2019 Desert Hills Helena Rose
BC VQA Okanagan Valley
Three Boys Vineyard
100% Stainless steel tank + 2 Barrels Gamay (25% new French oak)
Our 2019 Rose features a seductively pale salmon/pink appearance opening with aromas of pomegranate, strawberry, rhubarb and fresh herbs. A delicate and crisp mouthfeel and bright acidity brings harmony to the long lingering finish. A perfect patio wine.
Grown on our estate Three Boys vineyard located on the Black Sage Bench, all grapes from this site are planted to an east-west orientation. Known famously for its sandy soils our vineyard provides maximum sun exposure and great drainage. Timely leaf pulling on the morning side of the canopy in conjunction with grape cluster thinning extended more intense flavors while helping with airflow and light exposure.
A blend consisting of 73% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 7% Syrah, and 2% Sauvignon Blanc was de-stemmed with no crushing and soaked on the skins for a combination of 4 to 7 hours before being gently pressed. Fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks at a cool temperature of 14 degrees to preserve fruit flavors and freshness. The wine sat on light lees for 3 months with bi-weekly stirring to provide weight, texture and length to the finish. 5% Gamay or two barrels already finished 2019 gamay, aged in 25% new French oak, was then added blush to boost the bright red fruit characteristics
