Plush Red fruits, ripe blackberry and violets on the nose. The palate continues with more red and black fruit with a baking spice, pencil shavings character. The wine exhibits a beautiful rustic edge with incredible texture and structure on long silky finish.
Located on the north end of the Black Sage Bench our Petit Verdot is grown in our Eagles Nest Vineyard, where the east-west orientation allows for great sun exposure, and the famous sandy soil allows for excellent drainage. Leaf thinning throughout the season improved the already good sun exposure and provided excellent ventilation in the fruit zone. Fruit selection and vine spacing led to a fruit count of approximately 3.0 tons per acre.
: Hand harvested on October 14. Destemmed and lightly crushed into an open top fermenter. Cold soak for 6 days prior to a natural wild fermentation begins with 2-3 punch downs for precise cap management. After a 21 day maceration the young wine is pressed and allowed to settle overnight before being racked into 25% new French Oak barrels with a careful selection of coopers, Sylvain, Radoux and Nadalie. Barrel aged for 22 months prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
